
What is the Canterbury Community Primary Health Organisation?
The CCPHO is a community based coalition of agencies providing health services to a high need population within the greater Christchurch Area. It is distinct from other PHOs as the member organisations are largely charitable trusts with specialist focus i.e Hepatitis C resource centre, The Needle Exchange, 198 Youth Health Centre, ChCh branch NZ Prostitutes Collective, rather than business entities. What area does the CCPHO cover?
The CCPHO provides healthcare services for a population that is spread throughout Christchurch city. This population includes Maori, Pacific peoples and refugees, as well as a larger than average percentage of low socio-economic groups. The main GP provider, Union and Community Health Service Inc, operates Piki Te Ora, which services the city’s eastern suburbs.
